Our seaweed powder has both nori and wakame!

Do you know that wakame, nori, and kombu are different? We might know them as seaweed in general but specifically, they’re different varieties of seaweed. Where most of the seaweed powder we know contains the usual kombu only ours actually contains both nori and wakame which gives you a higher nutritional value!

What Is Nori?

Nori is a dried seaweed used in Japanese cuisine, made from the red algae species. Nori is often used in making sushi or onigiri wrapping.

What Health Benefits Does It Have?

Ever wonder where fatty fish, like salmon, get their omega-3 content from? This is all thanks to their algae-heavy diet. Nori is a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as DHA and EPA, two important fatty acids the body is not able to produce itself. Polyunsaturated fatty acids from algae are well-absorbed by humans and are cardioprotective, helping to lower blood lipids and improve cholesterol levels.

It is also high in folic acid (Vitamin B9) which is important to prevent preeclampsia. Preeclampsia, formerly called toxemia, is when pregnant women have high blood pressure, protein in their urine, and swelling in their legs, feet, and hands. It may be severe or mild and usually happens late in pregnancy.

What Is Wakame?

Wakame is a species of sea vegetable widely used in soups and salads. It belongs to the Brown alga Family Araliaceae.

What Health Benefits Does It Have?

Wakame is high in iodine, iodine is an essential mineral that the body uses to produce thyroid hormones, which help support growth, metabolism, protein synthesis, and cell repair. A deficiency in this key micronutrient can contribute to hypothyroidism, a condition in which your thyroid is unable to make enough thyroid hormone to support normal function.
It also contains antioxidants that may prevent or delay cell damage. This may help to reduce the risk of many diseases, such as heart diseases and some cancers.
